United Airlines Announces Largest International Network Expansion in Company History

United Airlines announced on Tuesday that it is launching the largest international network expansion in the company's history, adding 10 new international destinations and three additional routes across Europe and Asia. The expansion includes new nonstop flights to cities such as Luxembourg, Toulouse, Ibiza, and Valencia, beginning as early as March 2027. To support these new routes, the carrier is introducing the Airbus A321XLR, a long-range single-aisle jet featuring a premium cabin configuration. Patrick Quayle, United's senior vice president of global network planning and alliances, stated that the airline is betting on smaller planes to provide direct access to niche markets, allowing passengers to avoid connections in major European hubs. While rivals like Delta Air Lines have expressed skepticism regarding the product on long-haul routes, United remains bullish on the narrow-body platform. The airline plans to phase out its Boeing 757 fleet to accommodate the new aircraft, which offers 16 more premium seats than the planes it replaces.
