Arthur Layne Lundeen Arrested After Being Duct-Taped to Seat During Disruptive American Airlines Flight

Arthur Layne Lundeen, a 67-year-old Arizona realtor, was arrested after a disruptive outburst on an American Airlines flight from Dallas to Newark. Approximately two hours into the flight, Lundeen allegedly began shouting racial and homophobic slurs, including the N-word, at flight attendants and passengers. The behavior escalated into a physical altercation where Lundeen allegedly attacked his seatmate and bit the hand of one of the passengers who helped restrain him. To contain the situation, flight attendants provided zip ties and duct tape, which passengers Juan Mejia and Richard Olenick used to secure Lundeen to his seat. The flight was diverted to Baltimore for an emergency landing, where Maryland Transportation Authority Police arrested Lundeen. He faces misdemeanor charges for disorderly conduct and second-degree assault. Following the incident, Lundeen's employer, Long Realty, announced it had ended its affiliation with him, stating his conduct was inconsistent with the company's professional values. Federal Aviation Administration data shows over 1,160 unruly passenger incidents have been reported so far this year.
