Ukrainian drone strikes on Novorossiysk port disrupt Russian grain and oil exports to global markets
Ukrainian maritime and aerial drone strikes have severely disrupted shipments at the port of Novorossiysk, Russia's largest commercial Black Sea port. The attacks have caused significant disruptions to oil and grain exports, particularly impacting Russia's ability to supply the global market. While Russia's main oil export facility, the Sheskharis terminal, briefly halted loadings, grain exports via the Azov-Black Sea basin have been virtually blocked. Andrei Sisov, head of SovEcon, noted that many Russian producers may not survive the season due to deteriorating financial conditions. Because exports have stalled, surplus grain is being sold on the domestic market, putting downward pressure on prices. Experts from Argus Media and the Center for Research on Energy and Clean Air indicate that while alternative routes like Baltic ports exist, they cannot fully replace the volume of the Black Sea. These disruptions will be felt globally, as Russia is the world's largest wheat exporter.
