National Weather Service Confirms Eight Tornadoes Following Severe Storms in Western New York

The National Weather Service confirmed that a massive supercell thunderstorm on September 2 brought a total of eight tornadoes to western New York. This includes a new EF1 tornado that touched down near Salt Road in Webster at approximately 7:30 p.m. and traveled southeast for 3.23 miles before lifting near Ontario. This tornado caused significant damage to several areas. Near Salt Road, several softwood trees were snapped. Concentrated damage occurred near the intersection of Basket Road and Ridge Road, where hardwood trees were uprooted or snapped and power poles were knocked down. The most significant damage was reported in a subdivision west of County Line Road, where homes on Halesworth Lane and Bannerwood Drive sustained roof uplift, shingle loss, and siding damage. The storm also impacted other counties, including Seneca, Genesee, Orleans, and Niagara. In Waterloo, the Village of Waterloo officials are pursuing a disaster declaration and asking residents to submit photos and damage estimates to document the storm's impact. The Waterloo Fire Department responded to over 100 calls in 20 hours due to the storm.
