Thomas Fahmy Survives Lightning Strike in New York City

Thomas Fahmy, a 24-year-old congressional staffer, survived a lightning strike while walking to a dentist appointment in Staten Island on August 27. The incident was captured on a doorbell camera, which showed Fahmy collapsing to the ground as the bolt struck his body. Fahmy reported feeling an intense burning sensation followed by tingling, numbness, and severe pain in both of his feet. Despite the strike, he remained conscious and was able to stand up to seek help from a neighbor. A woman and her child entered their home to assist him, and emergency responders were called. Fahmy was transported to Northwell Staten Island University Hospital, where he was monitored overnight. Doctors noted that it was rare for him to have no visible burns on his body. He was released the following day. Representative Nicole Malliotakis expressed gratitude for Fahmy's survival and thanked the medical staff and the neighbor who assisted him.
