Terra Restaurant and Bar Reopens in San Jose After Health Inspectors Discover Cockroaches in Kitchen

Terra Restaurant and Bar, located on the third floor of the Eataly food hall in San Jose, has reopened for service following a temporary closure by Santa Clara County health inspectors. The restaurant was ordered to close immediately after inspectors discovered a live cockroach crawling on a wall above the kitchen's hand wash sink, along with several dead cockroaches in the food preparation area. Following a public complaint alleging rodents, the county Department of Environmental Health suspended the facility's health permit and issued a red closure placard. To regain its permit, the restaurant was required to sanitize all surfaces, discard contaminated food, and undergo a professional pest control treatment. Communications Manager Sarah Conboy confirmed that the facility completed a thorough remediation in coordination with the health department. The restaurant officially reopened for dinner service on Saturday evening. While Terra faced these violations, other food operations within the Eataly marketplace passed their inspections successfully.
