Margarita Guerra deploys interinstitutional teams to assess damage from strong winds and rains across Magdalena Province

The Magdalena Province Government, led by Governor Margarita Guerra, has deployed interinstitutional teams to evaluate the impact of a recent vendaval, or strong wind event, across 11 municipalities. Preliminary reports indicate that Ariguaní is among the most affected areas, where at least 45 homes were impacted, primarily by the loss of roofs and covers. In the neighborhoods of La Paz and 12 de Octubre, significant damage was recorded, including 17 destechadas homes in La Paz and partial cover damage in 14 homes in 12 de Octubre. The wind event also caused disruptions to the electricity service in some sectors of the municipality. In Tenerife, the wind event caused notable damage to educational infrastructure. The IED Simón Bolúvar reported a total destruction of its roof and damage to the coliseo structure, while the IED Anuar Rivera Jattar suffered several roof sheets and damage to three classrooms due to a fallen tree. Authorities are currently conducting censuses to determine the final number of affected families and to activate emergency response plans. The departmental administration is coordinating with local risk management councils to consolidate the final inventory of damaged structures and deliver assistance to the most vulnerable communities.
