Nicolas Maduro shares first photos from U.S. detention center following capture by American forces

Nicolas Maduro shared two photographs on social media showing him in a U.S. detention center in Brooklyn, New York, where he has been held since his abduction in January. The former Venezuelan leader appeared in a gray tracksuit and made peace signs, appearing noticeably thinner than when he was captured. Maduro described the images as a "small gift" to his supporters and expressed confidence that Venezuela will rise again. The administration announced a historic oil agreement with Venezuela that would grant the U.S. majority control over 65 billion barrels of oil reserves. This deal follows a months-long military campaign by the administration against Maduro's regime. Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, face charges of drug trafficking and conspiracy to commit narco-terrorism. Both have pleaded not guilty and are scheduled to go on trial in New York in June 2027.
