Lawyer Epigmenio Mendieta reveals key figures in fiscal fraud investigation involving former Admiral Fernando Farñas Laguna
Lawyer Epigmenio Mendieta, representing former naval officer Fernando Farñas Laguna, revealed that the fiscal fraud investigation into the hydrocarbon network includes significant figures identified by nicknames. During a hearing in the Altiplano prison, Mendieta noted that witnesses identified a person called "Andy" who allegedly intervened to resolve a stuck ship in Guaymas by contacting the Secretary of the Navy. Mendieta also highlighted a witness statement attributing specific docks to a friend of a "very important politician" from Tabasco. While the General Prosecutor of the Republic (FGR) has not yet officially opened a folder against Andrés Manuel López Beltrán, the investigation into Fernando Farñas Laguna's network has already caused a public controversy. The network allegedly operated across eight states, causing over four billion pesos in damage to the public treasury. The fiscal contraband scheme involved using companies as facades to under-report fuel volumes from the United States, with some trains carrying only 10 percent of their declared capacity. The FGR maintains that the network operated without proper regulatory authorizations.
