Walmart Inc. will begin offering tap-to-pay options, including Apple Pay, across its retail locations by the end of the year.

Walmart Inc. announced on Friday that it will begin offering tap-to-pay options, including Apple Pay and Google Pay, at select stores starting August 24. The retail giant plans to roll out these contactless payment methods across all Walmart and Sam's Club locations by the end of 2026, with gas stations scheduled to receive the service by mid-2027. This move follows a period where the company prioritized its proprietary Walmart Pay system. However, shopper complaints regarding the lack of online and in-store Apple Pay availability—a service used by more than 85% of U.S. retailers—prompted the change. The administration announced that the goal is to provide customers with more choice and a more convenient shopping experience. The rollout will also include the ability for customers to add their Walmart, Sam's Club, and OnePay cards to their digital wallets.
