Bill Glahn Warns of Persistent Medicaid Fraud and Lack of Accountability Under the Walz Administration

Policy expert Bill Glahn of the Center of the American Experiment warned that Minnesota has failed to adequately address ongoing Medicaid fraud, despite billions in taxpayer losses and national scrutiny. Glahn noted that the state continues to approve more than one new assisted-living facility license every day, even as many of these facilities are linked to fraud scandals. He criticized the Walz administration for a lack of regulatory oversight and a 'culture of tolerance' regarding the issues. Recent investigations have highlighted specific instances of waste, such as a Liberian government official who claimed to be the onsite director of three Minnesota group homes while living 5,000 miles away in Africa. This oversight allowed the state to pay the official at least $36 million over a decade. Additionally, the Minnesota Department of Health recently revoked licenses for five group homes due to neglect and fraud allegations. While the Department of Human Services has implemented some reforms, Glahn argues that the administration has yet to take substantive action to hold officials accountable for the failures.
