Tryston Tremaine Vaughn and Four Others Face Federal Charges in $23 Million Mail Theft Scheme
A federal grand jury has indicted five individuals, including Tryston Tremaine Vaughn, for an alleged check-theft scheme that generated more than $23 million over nearly six years. The operation, which began around October 2022, involved three Houston postal carriers—Catherine Clauzelle Kilpatrick, Drakkor Jamar Alexander, and Malcolm Tiree Joubert—who were recruited by Vaughn to remove checks from their mail routes. These stolen checks were then sold through an encrypted Telegram group called "SlipsandChips." Alyssa Nadine Bryant is also accused of helping to acquire and ship the stolen checks to buyers across the country using FedEx. The indictment includes a check allegedly worth over $1.5 million, taken from the mail by Malcolm Tiree Joubert in May 2024. The five defendants face charges of conspiracy to commit bank fraud and bank fraud. While the postal carriers face additional counts of theft of mail matter by a postal employee, all defendants remain presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
