Hilery Opperman and Ricardo Arrate are beginning the process of recovering from the destruction caused by the Hawk Fire in the North Valleys. The fire destroyed the home where Hilery Opperman and her family lived for three decades, which was nearly paid off, and a mountaintop property built by hand by Ricardo Arrate over 20 years. Both families are now sifting through the aftermath to determine what can be salvaged from the wreckage. While Ricardo Arrate noted that many personal items, such as his son's wrestling pictures, are irreplaceable, both families remain optimistic about rebuilding. Hilery Opperman stated that they plan to make the property a home again, supported by an outpouring of community support. Local leaders and fire managers will host a community meeting on Thursday, Aug. 27, at 7 p.m. at O’Brien Middle School in Reno to provide updates and share resources for affected residents.
