President Trump Secures New Drug Pricing Deals with Nine Pharmaceutical Companies
President Trump announced new drug pricing deals with nine pharmaceutical companies, including Alcon, Astellas Pharma, BeOne Medicines, BridgeBio, CSL, Kyowa Kirin, Sun Pharma, Teva Pharmaceuticals, and UCB. These agreements allow state Medicaid programs to pay discounted prices for medications that align with what companies charge in foreign countries. The nine companies committed to invest at least $19.6 billion collectively in U.S. manufacturing to avoid future tariff threats. These deals bring the total number of pharmaceutical companies participating in the most-favored-nation policy to 26, representing 90% of the domestic pharmaceutical market. The administration announced that these agreements will help lower drug prices compared to the high costs currently seen in the U.S. compared to other countries. The administration also noted that some of these prices will be available on TrumpRx.gov. The administration announced that the 17 companies that joined earlier in the year also contributed to the savings. President Trump said the new deals would save Americans more than $600 billion. While the administration highlighted the fiscal health of Medicaid, some experts noted that the long-term savings may be limited as companies might adjust prices in other countries to maintain the balance.
