Mayor Katie Wilson signs executive orders to accelerate Seattle's Vision Zero safety measures

The administration announced that these orders aim to turn the city's commitment to Vision Zero—a goal to eliminate serious injuries and traffic fatalities by 2030—into actionable results by improving street design, visibility, and speed management. Mayor Katie Wilson highlighted that while the city has the funding and plans in place, decisive action is required to address the continued toll of serious crashes. The orders specifically prioritize the completion of a protected bike lane on SW Wildwood Place and a safety redesign of 12th Avenue South. Additionally, the administration announced that the Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) will accelerate traffic calming on high-speed corridors and implement targeted daylighting projects. To achieve these goals, the administration announced that SDOT will adopt a new early delivery phase for corridor projects to implement coordinated safety improvements sooner. The orders also include plans to expand the school streets program and manage the city's vehicle fleet to ensure safer operations for all road users.
