Lovay Williams found dead in Washington Heights apartment with her young daughter inside

Police are investigating the homicide of 27-year-old Lovay Williams, who was found dead in her Washington Heights apartment on Sunday afternoon. Officers were called to perform a wellness check at 535 W. 156th St. and discovered Williams with injuries to her face and neck. Her 5-year-old daughter was alone in the apartment when police arrived and answered the door for them. Investigators are treating the case as a domestic violence killing. Neighbors reported that Williams was a reserved person who lived in the apartment for at least two years. A neighbor, Jim Aiken, observed a man in dark clothing carrying plastic bags leaving the apartment several times on Sunday morning. Security footage from the building shows the man leaving with several trash bags. Relatives and advocates gathered in East Harlem on Monday to mourn Williams. Her father, Nuquan Williams, stated that the man who killed her did so in front of her daughter. Her mother, Monica Manners, expressed her desire for justice for her daughter. Police have not yet made an arrest, but the Chief Medical Examiner is working to determine the official cause of death.
