Mexico's General Prosecutor's Office Arrests Fausto Corrales for Alleged Involvement in the Kidnapping of Ismael 'El Mayo' Zambada
The General Prosecutor's Office (FGR) confirmed the arrest of Fausto Corrales, a key figure in the investigation regarding the kidnapping of narcotics kingpin Ismael 'El Mayo' Zambada. Corrales was apprehended in Mexico City's Miguel Hidalgo borough under a federal warrant for his alleged involvement in concealing the homicide of Héctor Melesio Cuén Ojeda and for providing false statements to authorities. President Claudia Sheinbaum expressed confidence that the arrest of Corrales will help clarify the circumstances of Zambada's capture by the United States in July 2024. The FGR noted that Corrales was a witness to the kidnapping, but is now accused of omitting truthful information to mislead the authorities. Victor Antonio Corrales Burgueño, the father of the accused, stated that the family was surprised by the arrest. While he maintains full confidence in his son's innocence, he requested that the public allow the authorities to conduct the investigation without interference or speculation until a final verdict is reached.
