President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed that Ukrainian forces launched a drone strike on the Lukoil-Permnefteorgsintez oil refinery in Russia on August 21. The strike, located approximately 1,500 kilometers from Ukraine, caused significant explosions and fire at one of Russia's largest oil facilities. The Russian Defense Ministry reported that air defenses intercepted 325 Ukrainian drones overnight. Ukraine continues to target Russian energy infrastructure to disrupt fuel supplies for the Russian military and reduce Moscow's war revenues. In a separate strike on August 22, Ukrainian drones hit an Ozon marketplace logistics hub in the Russian city of Chapayevsk. The attack caused a large fire at the 135,000 sq m warehouse facility, forcing the evacuation of more than 500 employees. Regional authorities also reported that the Novokuybyshevsk oil refinery, one of Russia's 10 largest refineries, was likely targeted in the same region. These strikes demonstrate Ukraine's strategy of using long-range drones to pressure Russian energy production and logistics.
