At least 27 people were killed after a minibus carrying members of a church collided head-on with a haulage truck in central Zimbabwe. The crash occurred near Chivhu, approximately 140 kilometers south of the capital, Harare, during the evening of Friday. Police spokesperson Paul Nyathi reported that the truck was attempting to overtake another vehicle when it struck the minibus, which was transporting members of a popular African Christian denomination to a conference. State-run broadcaster ZBC News, citing a provincial government minister, noted that 23 people died at the scene, while the remaining victims succumbed to their injuries at a local hospital. Social media footage showed the minibus charred to a shell. The incident highlights ongoing safety concerns regarding Zimbabwe's roads, which have suffered from years of underfunding and neglect. Many residents rely on privately run minibus taxis, which are frequently criticized for being overloaded.
