Prime Minister Péter Magyar reported that Hungary's Paks Power Plant narrowly avoided a complete shutdown overnight as record-low water levels in the Danube River threatened its cooling system. Driven by extreme heat and drought, the water level stabilized and rose slightly by morning, allowing the last turbine to continue operating safely. This climate crisis is impacting nuclear operations across Europe. In Romania, authorities conducted a controlled explosion to redirect cooling water, while Bulgaria's low water levels forced a cruise ship to go aground. The drought has also revealed Nazi-era warships in Serbia. Simultaneously, extreme heat is causing destructive wildfires and health alerts across the continent. Greece is battling a major fire in Western Attica, while Italy has placed 25 of its 27 major cities on red alert. The Czech Republic recently recorded its highest overnight temperature ever in the town of Bystřice pod Hostýnem.
