David Brouillette is the ICE officer allegedly responsible for the fatal shooting of illegal immigrant Johan Sebastián Durán Guerrero in Maine.
The administration announced that an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officer, identified by family members as David Brouillette, allegedly fatally shot illegal immigrant Johan Sebastián Durán Guerrero during a traffic stop in Biddeford, Maine. While the Department of Homeland Security has not officially confirmed Brouillette's identity, reports indicate he has nearly a decade of federal law enforcement experience. The shooting has sparked criticism from Democratic lawmakers, who are calling for a review of ICE hiring practices. Bennie Thompson and Chuck Schumer criticized the administration for rushing 12,000 agents onto the streets without ensuring they were fully vetted. Family members of Brouillette noted his history of mental health issues and a tendency toward violence, including a voicemail where he reportedly told his ex-wife she should have her "throat cut." Durán Guerrero, a 25-year-old Colombian man, was working multiple jobs to support his three-year-old daughter when he was killed. Although he held a work permit and Social Security number, the administration noted he was still technically an illegal immigrant because his final legal status was pending.
