Saronic Technologies selected Brownsville, Texas, as the site for Port Alpha, a planned next-generation shipyard expected to create 10,000 jobs.
Saronic Technologies will invest more than $3 billion to develop Port Alpha, a next-generation shipyard in Brownsville, Texas. The company plans to begin construction in 2026, with operations targeted for 2028. The facility will produce both autonomous and conventionally crewed commercial and military vessels, serving as a major manufacturing hub for the nation. Dino Mavrookas, president and co-founder of Saronic Technologies, stated that the project represents the company's largest manufacturing investment to date. Unlike previous facilities, Port Alpha is a greenfield development designed for high throughput and advanced manufacturing principles. The shipyard is expected to create up to 10,000 direct jobs over the next decade, generating an estimated $264.5 billion in economic impact statewide. Mavrookas noted that the shipyard will support both defense and commercial markets, including container ships and tankers. He emphasized that rebuilding commercial shipbuilding capacity is critical for national security, noting that the ability to resupply forces is essential for longevity in potential conflicts.
