Attorney Ben Crump will announce the preliminary findings of an independent autopsy regarding the death of 18-year-old Nolan Wells on Wednesday, July 22, at the 117th NAACP National Convention in Chicago. The announcement will be made at 8:00 a.m. at McCormick Place West, where Crump will be joined by the Wells family and NAACP leadership. Nolan Wells was found dead on July 6, two days after he went missing during a Fourth of July boat trip to Horn Island off the Mississippi coast. While the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office continues its investigation, the family has sought a transparent and urgent inquiry into the circumstances of the teen's death. Ben Crump, representing the family, ordered an independent autopsy funded by former quarterback Colin Kaepernick. The family is also awaiting the results of a state medical examiner's autopsy and a toxicology report. The investigation remains ongoing as law enforcement works to determine the exact cause and manner of the death.
