A multi-vehicle crash involving three semi-trucks and two passenger vehicles caused major traffic delays on Interstate 285 in Clayton County.
A multi-vehicle collision on westbound Interstate 285 near Riverdale Road caused significant traffic delays on Saturday morning. The wreck involved three semi-trucks and two passenger vehicles, with one of the semi-trucks becoming fully engulfed in flames within its engine compartment. Clayton County Fire & Emergency Services responded to the scene at approximately 6 a.m. Due to the location of the incident, crews had to shuttle water to the site to extinguish the blaze and prevent the fire from spreading to the other vehicles. Three people—two men and one woman—were treated at the scene and transported to Grady Memorial Hospital for further treatment. Police confirmed there were no life-threatening injuries. The Georgia Department of Transportation reported that all lanes near Exit 60 were completely backed up for several hours. While the interstate remained shut down for much of the morning, all lanes were reopened by 1:30 p.m. The specific cause of the collision and the truck fire remain under investigation.
