Jon Henderson reports that fire crews are continuing to battle a large blaze on Edinburgh's Arthur's Seat.
Jon Henderson, the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service assistant chief officer, confirmed that crews are working to contain a large fire on Arthur's Seat. The blaze broke out at approximately 18:40 on Sunday, burning large swathes of vegetation below the Salisbury Crags cliff face. Six appliances were deployed to douse the flames, and while no casualties were reported, Police Scotland closed Queens Drive to all vehicles. Henderson noted that crews have been on-site since Sunday afternoon and expect to continue tackling the fire and dampening hotspots for several days. The fire is the latest wildfire call-out during a period of warm, dry weather. While the exact cause of the fire remains under investigation, the scale of the blaze makes it difficult to determine a specific starting point. Meanwhile, significant progress has also been made on a separate four-day fire in the Cairngorms National Park, where firefighters have successfully surrounded the flames and begun escorting residents back to their properties.
