Cal Fire Capt. Mike Cornette reported that the Creelman fire in Ramona has reached 20 percent containment after burning nearly 350 acres of rugged terrain. The blaze began Wednesday afternoon on Creelman Lane and pushed toward the San Diego Country Estates community, forcing residents to evacuate as flames moved through the area. Firefighters utilized ground crews and helicopters to defend structures and drop retardant, which helped slow the fire's spread. While one accessory dwelling unit was destroyed, no injuries were reported. The San Diego County Sheriff's Office issued multiple evacuation orders and warnings for surrounding zones, while the Red Cross opened an overnight shelter at Olive Peirce Middle School. The fire was driven by west winds of 20 to 25 mph and temperatures in the mid-80s. Crews planned to continue containment efforts overnight to take advantage of cooler temperatures and higher humidity. A smoke advisory was also issued for eastern San Diego County as residents were advised to limit outdoor activity.
