Ford Motor Co. Recalls Over 565,000 Broncos Due to Potential Engine Compartment Wiring Short Circuit and Fire Risk

Ford Motor Co. is recalling 565,691 Bronco and Bronco Raptor SUVs from model years 2021–2026 due to a wiring harness defect that can cause a short circuit. The automaker reported that insufficient abrasion protection on the harness may allow internal wires to become exposed, potentially creating sparks or flames in the engine compartment. While the defect affects over half a million vehicles, Ford Motor Co. estimates that only about 1% of the units are impacted. Drivers may notice smoke in the air vents or a warning message on the dashboard before flames appear on the passenger side of the engine compartment. Although the company is aware of 15 incidents involving fires, it reported no accidents or injuries related to the issue thus far. To resolve the problem, dealerships will install new convolute sheathing and abrasion tape over the wiring free of charge. Owners can check their vehicle identification numbers on the NHTSA website or contact Ford customer service. Notification letters are scheduled to be mailed to owners beginning August 24.
