Publix expands recall of GreenWise Organic frozen berries following E. coli outbreak across eight states

Publix has expanded its recall to include all lots of GreenWise Organic Frozen Whole Blueberries and Whole Mixed Berries after 12 people were reported sick across eight states. The recall was initiated following an E. coli O145:H28 outbreak linked to the Chile-based supplier Frutas y Hortalizas del Sur S.A. The contaminated fruit was distributed to Publix retail stores in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia. Symptoms of the infection include severe stomach cramps, diarrhea, fever, nausea, and vomiting. While most healthy individuals recover within a week, some may experience serious complications such as hemolytic uremic syndrome, particularly in young children and older adults. The Food & Drug Administration and the CDC are currently investigating the source of contamination. Consumers who purchased the products are urged to not eat, sell, or serve the berries. Impacted products can be discarded or returned to the point of purchase for a full refund.
