Brandon Booth faces charges after shooting a protester near an Aurora, Colorado, ICE detention facility.
Brandon Booth, an employee of the GEO Group, was arrested after firing a single shot at a protester near the Aurora ICE Processing Center on Thursday evening. The shooting occurred after a verbal confrontation between Booth and two women who were taking pictures of the employees' vehicles. The bullet struck one woman in the lower body, resulting in non-life-threatening injuries. Aurora police reported that the incident took place near the 3100 block of Nome Street. Booth, who was waiting in his vehicle for his work shift to begin, retrieved his personally owned pistol and fired as the two women walked away. Following the shot, Booth drove out of the area and was subsequently detained by police. The GEO Group placed Booth on unpaid administrative leave and confirmed they are cooperating with law enforcement. Aurora Police Chief Todd Chamberlain stated that the department will conduct a thorough and objective review of the case, emphasizing that violence is not tolerated in the city.
