General Motors CEO Mary Barra confirmed that the automaker will begin launching next-generation internal combustion engine Cadillac vehicles starting next spring and continuing through 2028. These new models will include updated versions of the CT5 sedan, the XT5 midsize SUV, and the XT6 SUV. The move marks a significant shift in strategy as the company moves away from its previous goal of making Cadillac exclusively electric by the end of the decade. The decision follows $10.9 billion in EV-related charges incurred since late last year due to slower adoption rates and easing emissions standards. To offset these costs, the administration of the company is increasing gas-powered production, including V-8 engines, and onshoring manufacturing to a Michigan plant. Despite the shift in strategy, General Motors reported strong financial growth, with North American profits surging 43 percent to $3.45 billion. The company also raised its full-year 2026 profit forecast following a 41 percent increase in adjusted earnings per share.
