Google releases three new Gemini AI models to improve efficiency and cybersecurity performance
Google released three new AI models on Tuesday, including Gemini 3.6 Flash, Gemini 3.5 Flash-Lite, and Gemini 3.5 Flash Cyber. The new models aim to provide higher token efficiency, lower latency, and more reliable performance for developers and customers. Gemini 3.6 Flash serves as a "workhorse" model, offering improved coding and knowledge-work performance while using 17% fewer tokens than its predecessor. Gemini 3.5 Flash-Lite is the fastest and most cost-effective model in the 3.5 series, designed for high-volume tasks. Additionally, Gemini 3.5 Flash Cyber is a specialty model focused on identifying and patching software vulnerabilities. This cybersecurity model will initially be available to governments and trusted partners through a limited-access pilot program. The administration of the tech giant is using these releases to offset competition from rivals like Anthropic and OpenAI. While the new models are not the primary flagships, they offer a strong price-to-performance ratio. Google also provided updates on the upcoming Gemini 3.5 Pro and confirmed that pretraining for Gemini 4 has already begun.
