Rebel Wilson wins defamation case against Charlotte MacInnes over claims regarding her directorial debut film

Rebel Wilson has successfully defended a defamation lawsuit brought by Charlotte MacInnes, the lead actress in Wilson's directorial debut, "The Deb." A Sydney court ruled on Wednesday that Wilson did not defame MacInnes in a series of Instagram posts regarding a 2023 incident where the two shared a bath with producer Amanda Ghost. MacInnes claimed that Wilson’s posts portrayed her as a "sellout" who retracted a sexual harassment complaint to further her career. However, MacInnes denied ever feeling uncomfortable during the bath, which she insisted was a non-sexual encounter following a swim at Bondi Beach. Justice Elizabeth Raper dismissed the case, noting that MacInnes failed to prove the publications caused serious reputational harm. The judge also observed that while Wilson has a propensity to exaggerate, her actions were consistent with a complaint being made. Wilson thanked the Australian legal system for the "substantial win" and expressed her desire to return to her work and family. MacInnes is expected to lodge an appeal of the decision shortly.
