Wesley Bell wins Missouri Democratic primary rematch against Cori Bush
U.S. Rep. Wesley Bell won Tuesday's rematch in the Missouri Democratic primary against former Rep. Cori Bush. Bell, who previously lost the seat to Bush, successfully reclaimed the St. Louis-based seat by focusing on a pragmatic approach to local issues rather than international affairs. While Bush, a progressive activist, faced criticism for her stance on Israel, Bell received significant backing from the American Israel Public Affairs Committee. This victory positions Bell to likely win reelection in November. In other Missouri primaries, Republicans chose Rick Brattin to challenge Emanuel Cleaver in a Republic-leaning district, while conservative talk radio host Chris Stigall won a primary to succeed retiring Rep. Sam Graves. Missouri voters also rejected two Republican-led ballot measures: one that would have required citizen-initiated constitutional amendments to win in every congressional district, and another that would have phased out the individual income tax in favor of a sales tax expansion.
