NBCUniversal partners with YouTube Premium to offer Peacock content at no additional cost
NBCUniversal announced a content deal with YouTube Premium that will provide U.S. subscribers with Peacock Premium content at no additional cost starting in early 2027. Under the agreement, users who pay the current $15.99 monthly fee for YouTube Premium will gain instant access to Peacock's portfolio, including live sports, blockbuster movies, and hit original series like "Love Island USA." This strategy moves away from the "walled garden" approach used by many competitors, focusing on partnership and aggregation rather than exclusive distribution. Comcast co-CEO Mike Cavanagh stated that the company aims to build strong platforms while seeking opportunities to partner and bundle intellectual property. The deal is expected to expand Peacock's reach to a younger audience that already spends significant time on YouTube. While Netflix and Disney are also considering wholesale deals, NBCUniversal has not yet finalized agreements with them to avoid potential subscriber cannibalization. The move is seen as a way to strengthen Peacock's long-term growth and reach more viewers.
