Isabella Williams was one of more than 500 incoming freshmen at Howard University who were unexpectedly unenrolled after missing a July 10 tuition payment deadline. The students, many of whom were preparing to move onto campus, expressed frustration because they believed their pending scholarships and financial aid would cover the costs. The university maintained that it provided multiple communications throughout the spring and summer regarding payment requirements. However, many students argued they had already secured outside funding that typically does not credit to accounts until August. Isabella Williams, who was accepted into 42 colleges, shared her disappointment on social media after being stripped of her place at her "dream school" just days before move-in. Following public backlash and a personal plea from Isabella Williams, the university began reviewing cases to restore enrollment for students with anticipated funding. Howard University stated it is considering relevant circumstances regarding pending awards to ensure students who were unfairly dropped can secure their places for the fall semester.
