Protests Erupt in Kyiv Following the Dismissal of Defence Minister Mykhailo Fedorov

Protests erupted across several Ukrainian cities after President Volodymyr Zelenskyy dismissed Defence Minister Mykhailo Fedorov as part of a major government reshuffle. Over a thousand people gathered in Kyiv’s central square, voicing discontent with the rapid changes in ministerial roles. During his tenure, Mykhailo Fedorov was credited with implementing significant technological reforms, including key achievements like disabling Starlink access for Russian forces and boosting domestic drone production. Supporters viewed his efforts as vital for modernizing the defense sector. The cabinet reshuffle saw Serhiy Koretsky, former CEO of Naftogaz, nominated as the new prime minister, replacing Yulia Svyrydenko. Furthermore, Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko is widely expected to take over the role of defence minister. Koretsky stated his primary goal is to fully equip the defense forces. The dismissal has prompted debate regarding internal clashes within the military establishment, despite the administration’s efforts to project unity.
