A chain-reaction wreck involving 17 vehicles, including three tractor-trailers, shut down all eastbound lanes of Interstate 20 in Carroll County on Friday afternoon. The Georgia State Patrol reported that the accident occurred around 2:40 p.m. near the Liberty Road exit. Authorities believe the incident began when a Nissan Pathfinder lost control and collided with a Ford Explorer, triggering a sequence of collisions that involved 14 cars in total. One vehicle was reported to have overturned at the scene. The crash brought traffic to a standstill for over four hours, with the left lane reopening at 4:25 p.m. and all remaining lanes clearing by 7:11 p.m. Nine people were transported to four different hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries. While the initial reports suggested fewer vehicles were involved, the final count confirmed 17 vehicles were part of the wreck. The Georgia Department of Transportation and the Georgia State Patrol continue to investigate the primary cause of the accident.
