IBM CEO Arvind Krishna clarifies that recent software sales delays were temporary as the company shifts focus toward quantum technology and AI.

IBM CEO Arvind Krishna addressed concerns regarding a recent tech slowdown, noting that one-third of major enterprise deals delayed during a rocky second quarter have already returned to the company. While a 60% spike in semiconductor prices forced clients to prioritize physical hardware over software, Krishna indicated that the shift was a temporary deferral rather than a permanent loss of demand. The company recently lowered its full-year revenue growth forecast to 4% to 5% following a 25% single-day stock drop. To counter these fluctuations, Krishna stated the company will focus on growing its high-margin subscription software, which accounts for 80% of revenue, rather than relying on upfront purchases. Additionally, the administration announced that IBM is doubling down on quantum technology, with Krishna predicting the sector could have a trillion-dollar impact on the industry by the end of the next decade. IBM also introduced a new AI coding tool and signed a letter of intent to build a U.S. quantum chip foundry to drive future productivity.
