Austin Hammond, the Mayor of Menasha, declared a local state of disaster for the city following a severe EF-2 tornado that struck the Fox Cities on Monday. The storm produced wind gusts between 111 and 135 mph, causing catastrophic damage to homes, businesses, and infrastructure throughout the area. While no fatalities have been reported, the tornado destroyed several local landmarks, including Manderfield's Home Bakery. Emergency crews are currently responding to widespread damage, though many roads remain impassable due to downed trees and debris. A city-wide curfew was issued from 10 p.m. Monday to 5 a.m. Tuesday, and a boil-water order is in effect for residents served by the Village of Fox Crossing water utility. Officials are urging residents to avoid the storm-damaged areas unless necessary. Three emergency shelters are open for those needing refuge, and a shuttle service is providing transportation to the Christ the Rock Church. School activities in the Menasha School District remain suspended until further notice.
