Abbas Araghchi, Iran’s Foreign Minister, stated that the United States is attempting to establish a new route through the Strait of Hormuz without consulting Tehran. He noted that the June Memorandum of Understanding grants Iran the right to set transit mechanisms for the strategic waterway. This move has caused tensions to spike, as Iran claims the U.S. is bypassing Iranian authorities. The administration announced that the U.S. military has reimposed a blockade on Iranian ports to address these violations. While the U.S. maintains the strait is open for transit, Iran has begun using warning shots and "decisive responses" to enforce its regulations. The standoff has led to a sharp decline in commercial shipping and raised concerns regarding global energy supplies. Meanwhile, the IRGC reported destroying numerous U.S. aircraft and drones across the region. President Trump said he is willing to listen to Iranian officials as they exchange messages to resolve these fundamental differences and deep mistrust.
