The deal, valued at $60-70 million, involves 300-400 shoulder-fired man-portable air defense systems from a Chinese supplier, with Zhongqing Baoshang International Investment serving as the intermediary. While the administration announced that Chinese leader Xi Jinping had previously assured President Trump that Chinese firms would not arm Tehran, the Chinese Foreign Ministry dismissed the report as groundless. A White House official stated that nothing outside actors are doing to help Iran is increasing their ability to target Americans. The weapons will be transported from Urumqi to Pakistan before reaching Iran. This shipment comes as the U.S. and Iran work toward a peace agreement brokased by Pakistan. Despite China's limited direct involvement, it has provided Iran with satellite imagery of U.S. military targets.
