The Pentagon updates the Defense Casualty Analysis System to include a new 'Overseas Operations' category for the Iran war.
The Pentagon updated the Defense Casualty Analysis System (DCAS) to include a new 'Overseas Operations' category, which accounts for casualties occurring since July 7. This change resulted in the removal of four recently killed soldiers from the primary Iran war tally, shifting them into the new category. The administration announced that these figures were adjusted due to 'temporary data disruptions' on the website. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth received a letter from 12 Democratic lawmakers on the Senate Armed Services Committee requesting a full and accurate accounting of all casualties. Lawmakers have expressed concern that the administration is rebranding the war to circumvent the 60-day limit of the War Powers Act. While President Trump confirmed the total of 18 deaths, some officials noted that the actual number of wounded has grown to over 500. The Pentagon continues to provide less information on military strategy and casualties than during the initial phase of the conflict.
