President Trump expressed a lack of interest in meeting with Iranian officials as the U.S. continues a 10-day barrage of airstrikes against the Islamic Republic. Speaking from the Oval Office, President Trump stated that while Iran "want[s] to desperately meet," the U.S. will only engage when they are ready to meet in a "meaningful way." The administration announced that U.S. forces will soon target an area near Pickaxe Mountain, a fortified site near one of Iran’s primary nuclear enrichment facilities. The conflict has centered on the Strait of Hormuz, a vital waterway for global energy supplies. Iran has maintained a grip on the strait, forcing the U.S. military to redirect commercial vessels and target Iranian maritime capabilities. The escalation has driven energy prices higher, with crude oil trading above $91 a barrel. While Pakistan and other mediators attempt to salvage a collapsed interim ceasefire, the administration remains prepared to hold Iran accountable for its aggression.
