Japan's Defense Minister Shinjiro Koizumi presents a white paper warning of rising military threats from China and Russia-North Korea cooperation.
Japan's Ministry of Defense released a white paper warning that growing military cooperation between Russia and North Korea could significantly strengthen Pyongyang's military capabilities, heightening security risks across Asia. The 610-page document also cautions that Beijing is strengthening its aircraft carrier force as it improves its capacity to operate in more distant seas and airspace. To counter these threats, Japan pledges to bolster its own monitoring systems, strike capabilities, and ammunition production. Beijing's defense ministry spokesman Chen Xi responded by calling the white paper "replete with false narratives" and accusing Japan of "neo-militarism." Chen Xi stated that Japan's defense build-up is a vain attempt to embed arms expansion into national institutions and urged Tokyo to avoid the path of re-militarization.
