Harmeet Dhillon Accuses Mikie Sherrill of Knowing About New Jersey's Voter Registration Errors Before Criticizing President Trump
Assistant Attorney General Harmeet Dhillon criticized New Jersey Governor Mikie Sherrill for labeling President Trump a liar regarding election integrity while her own state faced a significant voter registration error. The administration announced that more than 35,000 potential noncitizens are currently on New Jersey's voter rolls, a problem caused by a software glitch from the company Idemia. Dhillon stated that Sherrill was aware of the forthcoming revelation before the president's speech, and she urged the governor to cooperate with the Department of Justice to fix the problem. Sherrill, however, defended her administration's actions, claiming the federal government is attempting to weaponize the issue. The state is currently moving to terminate Idemia's contract with the Motor Vehicle Commission, though some Republicans argue that the state should conduct a full investigation before severing ties with the other two multimillion-dollar contracts held by the company. The Department of Justice has already begun suing state officials over the registration crisis.
