Ayman Safadi Convenes Emergency Meeting of Arab and Islamic Ministers to Address Imminent Threat of Israeli Takeover of Jerusalem
Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi is convening an emergency meeting of foreign ministers from the Arab and Islamic world to address the imminent threat of an Israeli takeover of the most important Muslim site in Jerusalem. The meeting, scheduled for Wednesday, aims to formulate a unified position on the deteriorating situation in the region, specifically regarding the escalating incursions by religious Jewish extremists into the al-Aqsa mosque compound. Safadi warned that tampering with the status quo of the site could trigger a religious conflict that would reverberate beyond Palestine and Jordan into the entire Muslim world. The meeting will include counterparts from the Arab League, Turkey, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Pakistan. Pakistan's Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar will also attend to reaffirm support for a Palestinian state based on pre-1967 borders. Jordanian officials expressed concern over the potential for mass deportation of Palestinians from the West Bank, which could destabilize Jordan's demographic balance. Additionally, the meeting addresses Israel's refusal to renew a 2021 water agreement, which has impacted Jordan's water-scarce nation.
