JetBlue Airways has won the takeoff and landing slots at New York's LaGuardia Airport from the collapsed Spirit Airlines. The New York-based carrier won the auction with a $58 million bid, edging out a $57.5 million offer. The airline plans to move back into Terminal A, the Art Deco facility previously occupied by Spirit. JetBlue described the space as a convenient terminal that travelers love. While the 12 round-trip slots are still subject to final court and regulatory approvals, the airline noted that any expansion into these slots will not occur until 2027. This move follows the collapse of Spirit Airlines, which failed to secure a $500 million bailout from the administration. JetBlue is currently undergoing a major expansion at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport in Florida. To manage costs during this growth, the airline recently announced it would reduce its staffing footprint at both LaGuardia and Newark Liberty International Airport. Spirit's assets are currently winding through U.S. Bankruptcy Court in New York.
