JK Rowling has threatened legal action against Amnesty International UK after the charity labeled her women-only support center as "anti-rights."
JK Rowling is seeking a formal apology and potential legal action from Amnesty International UK after the charity included her sexual violence support center, Beira’s Place, in a report describing it as part of an "anti-rights" movement. The charity, which manages the global human rights organization, admitted the report was published without undergoing established internal review processes. Lawyers representing Beira’s Place described the report as defamatory and an "egregious falsehood," noting that the center provides a "women-only" space for survivors of abuse. The organization has demanded that Amnesty International UK permanently withdraw the report, issue a public apology on its homepage, and commission an external review to determine how the error occurred. Amnesty International UK has already removed the list from its website, stating that the language used did not reflect the charity's official position. While the charity remains committed to defending the rights of both women and transgender people, it acknowledged that no community should be singled out for unfair treatment.
