Ayman Safadi convenes emergency meeting of Arab and Islamic world ministers to address imminent threat of Israeli takeover of Jerusalem's holy sites
Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi is hosting an emergency meeting of foreign ministers from the Arab and Islamic world to address the "imminent" threat of an Israeli takeover of the most important Muslim site in Jerusalem. The meeting aims to address escalating government-backed incursions by Jewish religious extremists into the al-Aqsa mosque and Dome of the Rock compound, which violate the traditional status quo treaty overseen by Jordan's Hashemite monarchy. Safadi warned that tampering with the status quo could trigger a religious conflict that would reverberate beyond Palestine and Jordan into the whole Muslim world. The meeting includes senior officials from countries such as Turkey, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Pakistan. Additionally, Pakistan's Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar and Egypt's Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty expressed grave concern over the worsening situation in the Palestinian territories, calling for an immediate cessation of hostilities. The gathering will also discuss the Gaza ceasefire process and international efforts to achieve a two-state solution, while addressing Israeli actions deemed contrary to international law.
