Valerii Zaluzhnyi states Ukraine will likely never join NATO due to current military standards
Valerii Zaluzhnyi, Ukraine's ambassador to the UK, stated that Ukraine is unlikely to ever join NATO. During a meeting of Ukrainian ambassadors in Kyiv, Zaluzhnyi noted that the country currently lacks the military standards required for membership in an organization guided by World War II doctrines. Having worked on NATO standards for 12 years, Zaluzhnyi argued that the Ukrainian Armed Forces' current capabilities do not align with the requirements of the alliance. Instead of focusing solely on NATO, Zaluzhnyi suggested that Ukraine should prioritize developing other security alliances, such as a potential European military security bloc. He also highlighted the need for Ukraine to acquire technologies from NATO members, such as anti-ballistic defense and space capabilities. While Ukraine has enshrined NATO membership as a strategic goal in its constitution, Zaluzhnyi's assessment suggests a shift toward more practical, and immediate security guarantees through emerging blocs and the Joint Expeditionary Force.
